Home Schooling
Grades 1-9
Governed by rules laid down by the Department of Basic Education, but current legislation allows for parents to have more direct control over their child’s education.
Children who are home-schooled are required to meet the CAPS requirements laid down by the government though, and this is where Path-finder can partner with parents who are home-schooling their children.
Path-finder provides a programme of learning, along with all mandatory assessments, with memos for completion at home.
Home-schooling gives parents and children the time and freedom to indulge in inquiry, and to develop critical thinking skills. Of course, tests, assessments and examinations are important but they are not everything.
We provide a programme of assessment outlining the timeframe, weighting and content of all mandatory assessments.
Path-finder moderates (using qualified and experienced educators) all submissions made by the parent to ensure standardization and the integrity of the assessment.
Home-schooling allows children to experience a range of learning methodologies beyond academic learning such as tactile, learning outdoors, field trips to cultural and other sites, as well as utilizing practical application of what has been learned beyond the home.
Path-finder provides feedback on the child’s performance to assist parents in preparing for the next assessment. We provide three reports for each child, per year including a final promotion report.
